A Word and World School
Celebrating the Life and Work of
Audre Lorde
Summer, 2008
Location, TBA
One of the frameworks Word and World has used to approach theological & social transformation is James Wm. McClendon’s notion of "Biography as Theology": examining the life an individual through their social location(s) and life work. Audre Lorde has long been a part of the W0rd and World curriculum. We will continue and deepen her place in the Word and World circle in 2008 by hosting a school to explore Lorde through an interfaith (Christian & Afro-Atlantic Spiritual traditions) theological lens. The Audre Lorde School hopes to bring together scholars, activists, and cultural workers in a celebration of her life and work as well as to create a space to wrestle with the current and future possibilities of Lorde's work for use as a tool for social change.
