Strengthening the Vision and Work of Word and World
Word and World is a young, low-budget, grassroots collaborative. Over the past four years we have been able to organize four successful peoples’ schools, because the organizers and faculty gave generously of their time and energy, and we received personal financial resources from people who connected with this vision and work. If your Spirit resonates with what you’ve seen in the content of this website, we invite your partnership in continuing this work.
Giving, of your attention and resources, is first and foremost, an act of participation. Responding to the call to participate is the individual and corporate responsibility of all of God’s children. We are thankful to have your company in the vocation of social transformation.
Some of the ways you can participate in the Word & World vision include supporting us with:
Prayer
Please pray for the staff, organizers, faculty and participants in Word & World schools.
Donations
Please consider a financial donation, or tithe, to defray expenses. Financial contributions are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged with a receipt. Hundreds of individual donors have enabled Word and World to grow through their thoughtful and generous giving. We invite you into a deeper relationship with this work through participating as a donor.
Checks payable to Word and World can be sent to: Word and World- c/o 204 Antlers Drive, Rochester, NY 14618
Spread the News
Please spread the good news about Word and World among your friends, colleagues, and community. Please contact us if you would like to receive flyers or other written material and/or application forms for Word and World Schools. We are also able to accommodate arranged interviews for articles or stories about Word and World.
Thank you for considering this request for your solidarity and partnership. We are confident that: this school is an extraordinary spiritual, theological and political experience that has no other parallel; this “village of learning” generates hope and encouragement, not to mention a broadening and deepening of faith and justice networks; and, by your financial partnership you help us sustain this young experiment in alternative theological reflection, and thus help rebuild the church as “Movement” and the Movement as “church.”
Ched Myers on “equipping everyday disciples”
“…to help equip everyday disciples to overcome their sense of disempowerment and denial in order to engage in the evangelical works of mercy, service, advocacy and resistance, we must do battle with dysfunctional theological concepts and domesticated biblical readings that refuse to address the deepening violence and broadening socio-economic disparity around us. In their place we need a more critical and grounded Christian literacy in Word and World. The biggest problem facing us, as I see it, is the gulf between seminaries, local congregations and faith-based activist organizations… We need to discuss together the challenges of this historical moment, and to embrace the central spiritual task of movement building: the task of becoming more, not less, than the sum of our parts… we must reach out to one another and find the connections between our work, and… take care of each other. Let us hope the Spirit leads…”
